Clonmel is built on a grand scale when it comes to the great outdoors. The town is flanked by the Comeragh Mountains and the Galtee Mountains, offering spectacular hiking and walking trails for the adventurous dog owner. For a less taxing wander, the Suir Blueway provides picturesque, riverside paths where a dog can stretch its legs and enjoy a sniff. This wealth of green space is a massive plus, making long walks a doddle.
However, when you get right into the town centre, purpose-built dog facilities are scarce. There appears to be a noticeable lack of dedicated, secure, off-leash dog parks, which can be a real pain if your dog is a bit of a flight risk or just needs a proper runaround without the lead. While many of the surrounding natural areas are dog-friendly, securing a contained space for energetic play might be a struggle.

The main drawback is the lack of urban-focused amenities, particularly a dedicated off-leash park and a more widespread ‘open-door’ policy for dogs in high-street businesses. While necessary services exist, the dog-friendly scene requires a bit of planning. The natural advantages just about edge it over the urban deficiencies.
